Who is speaking at the IUSA Conference 2019Noel Fahey
Noel Fahey served as Irish Ambassador to Washington between 2002 and 2007. Mr Fahey began his career in the Irish Foreign Service from 1974 and retired in 2011.During a lengthy and distinguished career, Mr Fahey had assignments in Foreign Affairs in Dublin mainly on EU and economic issues. He served abroad in the Irish Embassy in New Delhi and in the Irish Permanent Representation to the EU Brussels. He was appointed Assistant Secretary in charge of EU issues in the Department in 1991. In 1998 he was appointed Ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany overseeing the transfer of the Embassy to Berlin from Bonn. In 2002 he became Ambassador to the United States where he served until 2007. From 2007 until retirement he was Ambassador to the Holy See in Rome.
Since retirement he has been actively involved in the Institute of International and European Affairs. He is also Chair of Literature Ireland, the body that funds translations into other languages of works published in Ireland.
